Standing stones on Machrie Moor Date: 14th Sept 2006
Distance: 2.0 miles
Ascent: 130 feet
Time: 45 mins
With: Lisa
Start Grid Ref: NR895330

Route Summary: A short there and back route starting from the parking area just south of Machrie Bridge

Walk Summary: After a whole day of enforced inactivity it was with some relief that it stopped raining after about 6pm and we headed outside for the first time that day. It was quite a warm evening and there were a few midgies about. The stone circles were interesting and there were more than I’d imagined to be in such a small area. The large threesome being the most impressive out of the many to be seen.

While the lighting was not particularly conducive to good photos of the actual stones we were treated to a fantastic sunset over Kintyre towards the end of the walk and then the drive back to Pirnmill. Staying on the western side of the island I’d been looking forward to seeing some nice sunsets during the course of our holiday. As it happened this was the only one we really got but it was a classic.
